Penn program seeks French speakers to assist Francophone students at Lea

 

We found this very interesting article and wanted to pass it on to you. The University of Pennsylvania's French Department has introduced a unique language learning opportunity that pairs French students at Penn with elementary school students from different parts of the world who attend Henry C. Lea School in Philadelphia and are French native speakers. Community members are also invited to practice their French skills while helping these elementary school students with their English. World Language Advancement Act (WLAA) Introduced in House of Representatives

Recently, a bipartisan bill was introduced in the United States House of Representatives that is directly related to language instruction. This bill, introduced in July 2015, is called the World Language Advancement Act and would encourage state and local school districts to foster stronger and more innovative language programs for students in grades K-12. The bill discusses the importance and benefits of language learning.
